MAJOR DUTIES:
* Observes plant metering equipment on a scheduled basis, noting reading of flows at specified intervals; makes adjustments to flows of water and chemicals as necessary to maintain plant operation within operational standards.
* Keeps a log of plant operational characteristics, changes and repairs made, and other incidents of relevance to plant production.
* Collects samples of water at stages of treatment for lab analysis.
* Reports defects of plant operations to the Superintendent.
* Supervises the work of trainees, and instructs them in plant operations and the responsibilities of an operator.
* Answers telephone inquiries regarding the plant from citizens and other visitors.
* Washes prescribed areas of the plant on a designated schedule; paints areas and equipment as required.
* Performs routine/daily maintenance activities on treatment plant and generator equipment
* Supports and assists in major maintenance activities on treatment plant and operation equipment.
* Operates the belt press to dry sludge, the skid loader, and other equipment as required.
* Advises Treatment Plant Superintendent when plant operates outside mandated standards; prepares monthly report to state regulatory agency.
* Works stand-by for after hours emergencies or overtime.
* Completes paperwork to document progress.
* Performs additional duties as required. |

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* Graduation from high school, or completion of the GED.
* Must possess a State of Florida Water or Wastewater Class “C”, Class “B”, or Class “A” operator’s license.
* Maintenance of a current/valid State of Florida Driver License which meets requirements outlined in the City’s Personnel Rules and Regulations Manual as well as any requirement by the City’s insurance carrier (at no additional cost, or risk), and determined by the City to be an acceptable driving record history. |

Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Reasoning: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
